Dressing yourself and your family for photos doesn't have to be a nightmare. Let me help you!
First, let's talk about a few things.
1) The goal is to compliment each other, not match. You don't want to blend into each other. Plus you want to look like yourselves. Do you normally match with your whole family? We want these photos to look authentic, so unless it's normal for you to all match, let's choose complimentary.
2) Choose texture and movement over stiff and fitted. Natural fibers like linen or cotton (I love wool but probably not for summer) move with you, are breathable, and most comfortable.
3) Think about your location; are you going to the beach? Downtown? Gardens? A flowering field? Make sure your outfit also compliments your background. If you're going to a field of flowers, a flower patterned dress may not be your best option. Opt for a solid color instead.
4) SHOES! If we're heading to the beach, shoes are optional. Avoid wearing heels, or any sort of wedge. Walking in the sand in anything other than sandals or flats is a good way to break an ankle. If we're heading to a field, closed toe is best. Booties are always cute. Again, think about the location and dress your feet accordingly.
5) Makeup and hair. Be authentic. Wear what you would normally. Do whatever makes you feel confident and beautiful. The day of your shoot is not the time to try something new.
6) Prints: opt for subtle, small prints. See below for examples.
7) Dress yourself first. Pick your outfit and base everyone else's around yours.
Being authentically you is the best way to show up on the day of your shoot.
My goal for every shoot is to capture you as yourselves, to make you feel confident and beautiful. Wear what makes you feel the most comfortable. Jeans and tshirts? Perfect. Long flowy dress? Love it. Just show up as you.
